Dear Friend,

We all have had the experience of God answering our prayers almost immediately and then times when it seems our prayers will never be answered. For me, I have learned that when I seek God's will I'd better be prepared to hear the answer. If my heart is not prepared, I may never hear the answer. I may miss it (and have done so many times).

This month our family is celebrating my daughter Shelly being 10 years cancer-free. I remember during her illness I had never prayed so hard and leaned so hard on the Lord. I talked to Him almost every hour, crying out to Him for answers, knowing the type of cancer my daughter was diagnosed with had only a 20% rate of survival. When I heard the Lord tell me to leave her in His hands and I knew in my heart that this was from the Lord, I felt a real peace that is indescribable, if you have never felt it.

The Holy Spirit guides us from the inside, but if you are not "in tune" with the guide, then how can He guide you?

Oswald Chambers said it this way: "God speaks in the language you know best--not through your ears, but through your circumstances" (My Utmost for His Highest). What circumstances do you find yourself in today? What is the Lord trying to say to you through those circumstances? Listen. Do you hear Him? The things that are happening in your life have a purpose. They are not happening by chance. God has a purpose in our lives and gives us experiences along the way to teach us.

Shelly, my daughter, would tell you that God was speaking loudly to her when she was battling cancer. She heard Him loud and clear and obeyed Him. To me He spoke softly, and I obeyed Him and gave Shelly over to Him (admittedly, not right away). I believe as a result of listening to Him in these difficult circumstances, we now celebrate the cancer being gone for 10 years, the birth of two children who had a million to one chance of being born, and a life filled with hope, love and continued learning.

Today I still need to ask Him, "Lord, what are You trying to teach me right now? Holy Spirit, guide me to the truth."

Blessings,
